KRIS STONE'S BIO


Kris Stone's set designs have been seen throughout New York, the United States, Scotland, England, and Ireland in over 100 productions, earning her a nomination for the ESB Irish Theatre Award for "Best Set Designer "(2001), The Bay Area Critics Award for Best Set Design of a Musical for Brundibar (2006), The Oenslagger Award in Stage Design Excellence from Yale University, Philadelphia Weekly's Award for Best Scenic Design 2004 - '05, and the National Endowment for the Arts Award for Set Design (2003).  Kris lives in New York City. She graduated with a BFA in Stage Design in 1994, studied at the Slade School of Fine Arts in London, holds a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago, and an MFA from The Yale School of Drama in stage design and is a life-long contributor to the Sallie Mae Student Loan corporation.   She has taught set and costume design at Vassar College, Swarthmore College, and at NYU's Tisch School of The Arts.

She has designed at such venues as: The Abbey Theatre in Dublin, The Yale Rep, The Long Wharf, Berkeley Rep, San Jose Rep, Cal Shakes, The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, The Edinburgh Theatre Festival, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Philadelphia Theatre Company, Chicago Opera Theatre, The Old Globe in San Diego, The Arden Theatre in Philadelphia, five seasons at Shakespeare and Company, and many venues Off Broadway in New York City. Her work includes:  Tony Kushner and Maurice Sendak's operas Brundibar and Comedy on the Bridge (Berkeley Rep, Yale Rep, New Victory - NYC), Lolita (The Abbey Theatre - Dublin), The Real Thing (The Huntington - Boston), The Underpants by Steve Martin (The Arden Theatre - Philadelphia & The Alliance Theatre - Atlanta), Dublin by Lamplight (The Corn Exchange - Dublin, Irish Tour, and Edinburgh), Orfeo Ed Euridice (Opera Festival New Jersey - McCarter Theatre), and Mud (The Project Arts Centre - Dublin) -- winner of the 2004 ESB Irish Theatre Award for "Best Production".

Kris' work was recently produced at the Dublin Theatre Festival and at The Floretine Opera and will soon be produced at Hartford Stage, Classic Stage Company with New Georges, Asolo Theatre Festival, The Old Globe, Arizona Theatre Company, and in Tasmania.
